Research that contributes to the science deserves to be published.

But first, the researcher must

write the manuscript.

I offer one-on-one coaching and small group training for researchers writing scientific papers for peer-reviewed journals. These professional development opportunities empower authors to streamline their writing process, elevate quality, and improve acceptance rates.

28 years doing business as PAT WALSH WRITING COACH, LLC

My name is Pat Walsh. I’m a writing coach for scientists, clinical investigators, and academic researchers. My mission is to empower individual researchers and research groups to efficiently and successfully disseminate their findings. I have built a robust private practice in the past 28 years training hundreds of researchers to write more productively.

Clients become highly motivated to devote time to their manuscript writing once they see the immediate improvements that coaching and training produce. The gains from their successful writing projects inspire my clients to sustain a productive writing practice throughout their careers.

I live in the Midwest United States and work with clients across the country and welcome international clients. I have extensive experience and expertise in coaching researchers who are non-native English speakers. I look forward to hearing about your research and helping you build the advanced writing skills needed to achieve your ambitious publishing goals.

One-on-One Coaching

Learn and apply professional writing strategies in real time while you and I collaborate on conceptual, developmental, and line editing of your manuscript.

Small Group Training

Complete a competitive manuscript in 10 weeks. This training course is an integration of master class and workshop and is designed for a small cohort of four researchers.

Saturday Writing Salons

Join a small community of researchers committed to establishing a sustainable and productive writing practice. Gain accountability for making weekly progress on your manuscript or other writing projects. Create a writing practice that supports work/life balance.

Ask me anything about manuscript writing in this informal question and answer session. I will share my insights from nearly 30 years of coaching researchers on writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.

Additional Professional Development

WRITING COACHING ON CAREER-ADVANCING PROJECTS

There are many other communication projects besides scientific papers that researchers are required to complete during their careers. These documents and presentations need to be persuasive and polished. You need to skillfully present yourself and your work. Let me help you prepare for these important performance benchmarks in your career.

I understand the struggle to publish.

I’ve been a writing coach for hundreds of researchers and dozens of research teams.

My clients have shared with me why they have had trouble building a strong record of publications:

  • The race to secure future funding competed with their need to publish current research.
  • They received insufficient training in manuscript writing during their education.
  • They were caught up in the vicious cycle of perfectionism, procrastination, and anxiety.
  • There was a scarcity of mentors with the capacity to help them.
  • They were overwhelmed by competing demands on their time and attention.

Are you or members of your team experiencing  barriers to success?

The stakes are high.

Failure to publish requisite manuscripts:

  • slows scientific advancement and translation.
  • weakens applications for future funding.
  • jeopardizes progress toward tenure and promotion.
  • discourages promising investigators from pursuing research careers.

I can help.

Researchers’ manuscript writing skills can be strengthened with training and coaching.

I offer individual researchers and research teams professional development on manuscript writing.
