My name is Pat Walsh. I’m a writing coach for academic and industry scientists conducting biomedical research across the translational spectrum. My mission is to empower individual scientists and research groups to communicate the value of their work to the scientific community, funders and investors, and the public. I have built a robust private practice in the past 28 years, training hundreds of scientists to write more productively.

I live in the Midwest United States and work with clients across the country, and I also welcome international clients. I support researchers in their job search, using Zoom and Google Docs in a highly collaborative process. Here is a breakdown of my services.

Strategy Session: I help you identify and articulate your assets as you discern the type of job and organization where you would be a good fit. This typically takes 1 to 2 hours.

Curriculum Vitae Session: Together, we revise your CV to best showcase your accomplishments. This typically takes 3 to 5 hours.

Functional Resume Session: Together, we create a functional resume that highlights transferable skills. This type of resume is especially helpful for academics exploring potential roles in industry. This typically takes 3 to 5 hours.

Cover Letter Session: Together, we craft customized cover letters that address the specific needs of each target position/organization. We persuasively convey how your knowledge, skills, and abilities enable you to meet those needs. This typically takes 1 hour per cover letter.

Presentation Session If a presentation is required as part of your interview process, together we create a PowerPoint that directly addresses the interests and expectations of your audience. Then you rehearse your presentation under my guidance. This typically takes 1-3 hours, depending on the length of the presentation.

Interview Session I help you anticipate potential questions and prepare confident answers. During a mock interview, I provide immediate feedback so you can refine your responses. I record this session so you can share it with trusted friends for additional feedback and advice. This typically takes 1-2 hours per interview.

I charge $180 per hour and will send you an invoice after each session. I don’t use a contract. Rather, you are free to engage me for any or all of these services on an as-needed basis. You just sign up for a session on my scheduling app when you want my help, and I send you a Zoom link. I have some evening and weekend slots, as well as slots during regular business hours.
